Salt farmers are delighted by the bright sunshine.
(Baonghean.vn) - Under the scorching sun reaching 40 degrees Celsius, salt farmers in Quynh Luu are still working diligently. After all the hard work and toil, there is joy because they will have a bountiful harvest.
In early June, the scorching heat directly affected the daily lives and agricultural production of farmers. However, for salt producers in An Hoa, Quynh Nghia, and Quynh Thuan communes (Quynh Luu district), these hot days created favorable conditions for households to actively go to the fields to produce salt.

An Hoa commune currently has over 145 hectares of salt production area, concentrated in the villages of Bac Loi, Tan An, Tan Thang, Tan Thinh, and Hong Phong. Salt production accounts for 50% of the commune's workforce, with an average annual production of 18,000-19,000 tons of salt.

The prolonged heatwaves have helped salt farmers in An Hoa achieve higher salt production than in previous years. To date, the commune has produced approximately 9,000 tons of salt. Although salt prices were low at the beginning of the season, traders are now buying it at prices ranging from 1,200 VND to 1,600 VND per kilogram, which is good news for the salt farmers.

Ms. Ho Thi Thuy from Tan Thang village, An Hoa commune, quickly wiped the sweat from her face and shared: "Salt making depends on the three months of sunshine. The sunnier it is, the higher the salt yield. So, we take advantage of these sunny days to go to the fields and race against the weather to produce more salt and earn extra income for our families."
Thanks to the rising price of salt, salt farmers in Quynh Nghia and Quynh Thuan communes are currently taking advantage of the prolonged sunny weather to actively prepare the land, dry it, and fill the drying ponds with filtered water. The current peak heat not only helps households achieve double the production but also ensures the best quality salt.
According to Ms. Ho Thi Loi, a salt farmer in Quynh Nghia commune, her family usually produces nearly 100 kg of salt on a normal day, but the recent hot weather has caused the salt to crystallize faster, resulting in a yield of over 200 kg.

The entire Quynh Luu district currently has nearly 600 hectares of salt fields, with an annual production of over 60,000 tons. To ensure that people can produce with peace of mind, all levels and sectors need to pay attention to investing in salt production infrastructure, helping salt farmers stay on their fields and develop the traditional salt-making profession of their ancestors.
