Eight Indian soldiers killed in gunfight in Kashmir.

On August 26, eight police officers were killed in the Indian-controlled Kashmir region after being attacked by gunmen.

According to Indian police, unidentified gunmen attacked a checkpoint in Pulwama with guns and grenades, about 28km from Srinagar, the summer capital of Indian-controlled Kashmir.

In this clash, two militant gunmen were also killed. In addition, two Indian police buildings were burned down during the fighting.

In a statement published in a local newspaper, the Islamist group Jaish-e-Mohammad claimed responsibility for the attack.
