(Baonghean.vn) - They arranged to meet to "avenge" the humiliation of the nephew. After being insulted and threatened, Ngoc pulled the trigger and shot Dan, causing the victim to die on the way to the hospital.

On the morning of July 5th, the People's Court of Nghe An province opened a first-instance criminal trial to hear the case of Nguyen Thanh Ngoc (born in 1975), residing in Phong Thinh commune, Thanh Chuong district, charged with "murder".

According to the indictment, on the evening of February 8, 2017, a conflict arose between Nguyen Trung Thang (Ngoc's nephew) and Nguyen Dinh Dan, during which Thang was slapped three times by Dan.

Upon learning that her nephew had been assaulted, Nguyen Thanh Ngoc asked for Dan's phone number. They arranged to meet at Ngoc's coffee shop to talk. When Ngoc arrived, Dan pointed a knife at her, saying, "Don't you know who I am? Are you from Chua Market? I'll kill you now." Ngoc ran into her bedroom, retrieved a gun hidden under the bed, and held it in front of the shop, pointing it at Dan and declaring, "Anyone who tries to stab me again, I'll shoot."

Seeing Dần raise a knife, Ngọc pulled the trigger, shooting Dần and causing his death on the way to the hospital. After committing the crime, Ngọc took the weapon to the police station and surrendered.

At the trial, Nguyen Thanh Ngoc admitted to his crime and hoped for forgiveness from the victim's family, and requested the court to consider giving him a lighter sentence so that he could return to society sooner.

After considering all aspects of the case, the court sentenced Nguyen Thanh Ngoc to 9 years in prison and ordered him to compensate the victim more than 122 million VND (minus 50 million VND already paid); the defendant is also responsible for providing 300,000 VND per person per month to Mr. Dan's parents and 800,000 VND per child per month to Mr. Dan's two children until they reach 18 years of age.
