| With the goal of establishing a high-quality cinnamon raw material area, creating products that meet the needs of domestic and international markets; thereby contributing to creating livelihoods for local people, alleviating poverty, and reducing pressure on natural forests…, in July 2017, the Provincial People's Committee issued Decision No. 2937/QD-UBND approving the Project on planting cinnamon trees in Que Phong district for the period 2017 – 2020 (hereinafter referred to as Project 2937). | At one point, the area planted with Cinnamon trees in Que Phong district reached thousands of hectares. However, currently, the number of trees can be counted on the fingers of one hand, scattered in the gardens of households in Que Son, Tien Phong, and Muong Ngoc communes… In 2016, the Department of Science and Technology conducted a scientific project to conserve the genetic resources of this valuable forest product. | Understanding the growth characteristics of the Cinnamon tree, immediately after the Provincial People's Committee decided to implement the project to develop the Cinnamon raw material area in Que Phong district, the Pu Hoat Nature Reserve began collecting seeds and sowing them in nurseries located in Tien Phong and Hanh Dich communes. | According to the Decision, the area for planting Cinnamon trees is 350 hectares, requiring 350,000 seedlings (an average of 1,000 trees/hectare) of guaranteed quality and accurately traceable to the native Cinnamon variety. Therefore, the 120,000 Cinnamon trees produced in the Pu Hoat Nature Reserve will be a valuable source of seedlings for implementing Decision 2937.
