Nhan is the man who murdered the wife and child of Bui Xuan Thuong, Head of the People's Mobilization Committee of Chau Duc District, Ba Ria - Vung Tau Province.
At the trial held on July 26th, the panel of judges found no new mitigating circumstances for the defendant and therefore upheld the initial verdict.
According to the indictment, due to needing money to pay off debts, Chau Minh Nhan conceived the idea of stealing property from Mr. Thuong's house.
On the afternoon of October 24, 2016, Nhân went alone to Mr. Thường's house. While searching for valuables, he discovered Mr. Bùi Phạm Đức Toàn (Mr. Thường's son) inside the house. Nhân then used an iron pipe to beat Mr. Toàn to death.
Afterward, Nhân carried Toàn's body into the warehouse. Then, seeing Mrs. Phạm Thị Thúy Nga (Mr. Thường's wife) inside the house, Nhân used an iron pipe to beat her and then used an electrical wire to strangle her to death.
After committing the crime, Nhân escaped from the scene with the 19 million VND he had stolen.
At the first-instance trial, the People's Court of Ba Ria-Vung Tau province, in a mobile court session, sentenced Nhan to death and ordered him to compensate the victim's family for funeral expenses exceeding 200 million VND. The defendant subsequently appealed, requesting a reduction in his sentence.
