Nhan is the man who murdered the wife and children of Mr. Bui Xuan Thuong, Head of the Mass Mobilization Committee of Chau Duc district, Ba Ria - Vung Tau province.
At the trial held on July 26, the panel of judges found that the defendant had no new mitigating circumstances and therefore upheld the first instance sentence.
According to the indictment, due to needing money to pay off debt, Chau Minh Nhan had the idea of stealing property from Mr. Thuong's house.
On the afternoon of October 24, 2016, Nhan went alone to Mr. Thuong's house. While searching for property, he discovered Mr. Bui Pham Duc Toan (Mr. Thuong's son) was in the house. Nhan used an iron pipe to beat Mr. Toan until he died.
Nhan then took Toan's body into the warehouse. Then, Nhan saw Pham Thi Thuy Nga (Mr. Thuong's wife) in the house, so he beat her with an iron pipe and then strangled her to death with an electric wire.
After committing the crime, Nhan escaped from the scene with 19 million VND he had stolen.
At the first instance trial, the People’s Court of Ba Ria-Vung Tau Province sentenced Nhan to death and ordered him to compensate the victim’s family for funeral expenses of more than VND200 million. The defendant then appealed for a reduced sentence.
