This summer-autumn season, Dien Chau district planted 2,000 hectares of forest, mainly concentrated in the communes of Dien Thinh, Dien Thanh, Dien Hoa, Dien Hoang, etc. These are areas with large areas of arable land suitable for sesame cultivation.

Ms. Ngo Thi Hai from Dien Hoa commune shared: “This year, my family planted 3 sao (approximately 0.3 hectares) of sesame, with a yield of about 60 kg/sao, higher than in previous years. With the current selling price of about 40,000 VND/kg, we made a profit of over 2 million VND/sao.”

In previous years, sesame yields were around 1 ton/ha, but this year the yield has increased significantly, with some localities reaching 1.5 tons/ha; the estimated production is nearly 3,000 tons. This is due to the suitable rainfall this year, ensuring sufficient moisture for sesame plant growth; at the same time, the nutrient-rich soil after the peanut harvest has helped the sesame grow well.

The advantage of sesame plants is their high drought tolerance, allowing them to be harvested after only two months. Sesame growers don't need to spend much time caring for the plants because they grow naturally and are virtually free from pests and diseases; therefore, the cost of cultivation is significantly reduced.

In particular, sesame is an agricultural product with a stable market due to strong consumer demand. During the sesame harvest season, traders from all over come to each locality to buy it.

Currently, black sesame seeds are priced at 40,000 VND/kg, while other types of sesame seeds cost around 30,000 VND/kg. These prices provide a stable income for the local people. For households cultivating 4 sao (approximately 0.4 hectares) or more, the income exceeds 10 million VND.
