Dien Chau farmers have a good sesame crop

(Baonghean.vn) - Currently, in the fields of Dien Chau district (Nghe An), people have begun to harvest summer-autumn sesame; this year, the average sesame yield is 1.5 tons/ha.

This summer-autumn crop, the entire Dien Chau district planted 2,000 hectares of forest, mainly concentrated in the communes of Dien Thinh, Dien Thanh, Dien Hoa, Dien Hoang... These are localities with large areas of fertile land, suitable for sesame cultivation.

Ms. Ngo Thi Hai in Dien Hoa commune shared: "This year my family planted 3 sao of sesame, the yield reached about 60kg/sao, higher than other years. With the current selling price of about 40,000 VND/kg, we have a profit of over 2 million VND/sao".

In previous years, sesame yield was about 1 ton/ha, this year the yield increased remarkably, with some localities reaching 1.5 tons/ha; the estimated output reached nearly 3,000 tons. The reason is that this year the rainfall is suitable to ensure moisture for sesame plants to grow; at the same time, the nutritious soil after harvesting peanuts has helped sesame plants grow well.

The advantage of sesame is that it is highly drought tolerant and can be harvested after only 2 months. Sesame growers do not have to spend much time taking care of the plant because it grows naturally and is almost resistant to pests and diseases; thus, the cost of the plant is significantly reduced.

In particular, sesame is an agricultural product with stable output due to strong consumption market. During the sesame harvest season, traders from all over come to each locality to buy.

Currently, the price of black sesame is 40,000 VND/kg, other types of sesame cost about 30,000 VND/kg. With this price, people have a stable income. For households with an area of ​​4 sao or more, the income is over 10 million VND./.
