Police are checking numerous cars as they search for an escaped death row inmate.

Numerous checkpoints were set up, and police in Quang Ninh, carrying photos of the two death row inmates, checked taxis and passenger buses heading towards the border area.

On September 16th, police set up numerous checkpoints on National Highways 10 and 18 in Quang Ninh province, each manned by nearly 10 armed officers. Vehicles heading towards the Mong Cai border were subjected to strict inspections.

"We work 24/7 shifts, and we don't rule out the possibility that the two escaped death row inmates might be hiding in a passenger bus to escape to China. We've checked everything from the undercarriage to the restrooms," a police officer said.

Colonel Pham Hong Son, Head of the Road and Rail Traffic Police Department (Quang Ninh Provincial Police), said that they are checking all types of vehicles showing suspicious signs, such as passenger buses and taxis.

Traffic police have reinforced their forces to coordinate with riot police, setting up numerous checkpoints along the route through Dong Trieu town; Quang Hanh ward, Cam Pha city; Dai Yen ward, Ha Long city; and on National Highway 10…

Previously, two death row inmates, Le Van Tho (aka Tho "Sut", 37 years old) and Nguyen Van Tinh (28 years old), escaped from the T16 detention center of the Ministry of Public Security in Hanoi.

Authorities say that on the night of September 10th and the early morning of September 11th, taking advantage of heavy rain, the two men broke their shackles, dug through the cell wall, climbed the prison wall, and used a rope to escape.

On September 11th, Tình went to a relative's house in Yên Trung commune, Thạch Thất district (Hanoi) and fled on a motorbike with Thọ “Sứt”.

On the evening of September 13th, they were spotted at a karaoke bar in Ha Long City (Quang Ninh province).

The Ha Long police have sent out a notice to the public urging them to be vigilant and report any information about the two individuals to the local police immediately. Images of the two criminals have also been distributed to the public.
