Police check a series of cars, searching for escaped death row inmate

Many checkpoints were set up, police in Quang Ninh carried pictures of two death row inmates, checking taxis and buses heading to the border area.

On September 16, on National Highway 10 and National Highway 18 in Quang Ninh province, police set up many checkpoints, each with nearly 10 armed men. Vehicles going towards the Mong Cai border area were strictly checked.

“We work 24/7, and we do not rule out the possibility that the two escaped death row inmates could have hidden on the bus to escape to China at the border. Everything from the undercarriage to the toilets is being checked,” said a police officer.

Colonel Pham Hong Son, Head of the Road and Railway Traffic Police Department (Quang Ninh Provincial Police) said that all types of vehicles with suspicious signs such as passenger cars and taxis will be checked.

Traffic police have increased their forces to coordinate with mobile police to set up many checkpoints at the section passing through Dong Trieu town; Quang Hanh ward, Cam Pha city; Dai Yen ward, Ha Long city and on National Highway 10...

Previously, two death row inmates Le Van Tho (aka Tho "Sut", 37 years old) and Nguyen Van Tinh (28 years old) escaped from the T16 detention camp of the Ministry of Public Security in Hanoi.

Authorities said that on the night of September 10 to the morning of September 11, taking advantage of heavy rain, two men broke their shackles, dug through the cell wall, climbed the prison wall, and then used a rope to escape.

On September 11, Tinh returned to a relative's house in Yen Trung commune, Thach That district (Hanoi) and took a motorbike to escape with Tho "Sut".

On the evening of September 13, they were discovered at a karaoke bar in Ha Long city (Quang Ninh).

Ha Long police have sent out notices to residents asking them to be vigilant and to report any information about the two men to the local police immediately. Photos of the two criminals have also been released to the public.
