German company Sortimo is planning to build the world's largest fast-charging station for electric vehicles, with 144 charging points.

With countries moving toward banning traditional combustion fuel vehicles and consumers switching to electric vehicles, the world will need more charging stations. Therefore, the German company Sortimo is planning to build the world's largest fast-charging station with approximately 144 charging points. The station is expected to be built near Germany's A8 motorway.

According to data from Sortimo, approximately 4,000 vehicles can be charged daily at Innovationspark Zusmarshausen. Of these, 24 out of 144 charging points are superchargers with 350 kW, surpassing Tesla's Supercharger technology (150 kW). It is predicted that Innovationspark Zusmarshausen will save 29.5 million liters of fuel and reduce CO2 emissions by approximately 60,000 tons per year.

Innovationspark Zusmarshausen will go far beyond the image of a typical gas station. According to FAZ, the station may include offices, shopping areas, and restaurants. People can order food in advance so they can eat while their cars are charging.

In terms of design, the charging station is expected to be covered in greenery, close to nature, and have architecture that blends in with the environment. This will make people feel relaxed, like being in a park.

Of course, renewable energy is part of the plan for this massive charging station. Sortimo also adds that solar energy can be stored at the station and used during peak hours in the network of surrounding businesses and households. The station is also integrated with Innovationspark Zusmarshausen's thermal management system, so the heat released can be used to power buildings.

The engineering firm Steinbacher Consult will assist in the design, technology, and operation. The Innovationspark Zusmarshausen is expected to begin construction in early 2018, funded by the German Ministry of Transport.
