German company Sortimo is planning to build the world's largest electric vehicle fast charging station with 144 charging points.

As countries move to ban fossil fuel vehicles and consumers switch to electric vehicles, the world will need more charging stations for them. Therefore, the German company Sortimo is planning to build the world's largest electric rapid charging station with around 144 charging points. The station is planned to be built near Germany's A8 motorway.

According to Sortimo, around 4,000 vehicles can be charged every day at Innovationspark Zusmarshausen. Of these, 24 out of 144 are supercharger points with 350 kW. Surpassing the Tesla Supercharger technology (150 kW). The Innovationspark Zusmarshausen station is expected to save 29.5 million liters of oil and reduce CO2 emissions by around 60,000 tons per year.

Innovationspark Zusmarshausen will be more than just a gas station. According to FAZ, the station could include offices, shopping and dining areas. People will be able to order food before arriving so they can eat while their cars are charging.

In terms of design, the charging station is expected to be covered with green carpet, close to nature and have an architecture that blends with the environment. Making people feel relaxed like in a park here.

Of course, renewable energy is part of the plan for this giant charging station. Sortimo also offers that solar energy can be stored at the station and used during peak hours in a network of surrounding businesses and households. The station is also integrated with Innovationspark Zusmarshausen’s thermal management unit, so the heat released can be used to power buildings.

Engineering company Steinbacher Consult will assist with design, technology and operations. Construction of Innovationspark Zusmarshausen is expected to begin in early 2018, funded by the German transport ministry.
