Nghia Dan expands 1,000m2 to raise earthworms

(Baonghean.vn) - Nghia Dan District Gardening Association has replicated the model.raising earthworms as food in livestockin many communes to utilize agricultural waste, contributing to increasing people's income.

Currently, the earthworm farming model has been deployed by the Gardening Association of Nghia Dan district in 6 communes: Nghia Yen, Nghia Loc, Nghia Hoi, Nghia An, Nghia Mai, Nghia Binh and Nghia Dan town, with an area of ​​1,000 m2.

Raising earthworms also takes advantage of local sources of livestock manure, organic waste, and straw, so the cost of food is low. During the raising process, farmers have applied the correct technical process, the worms develop well; after 50 days, they can be harvested for breeding, or used as animal feed.

Worm farming areas can be utilized in home gardens, old abandoned barns, etc.; they have good resistance to local climate conditions. Currently, worm biomass costs 20,000 - 25,000 VND/kg; with 100m2 of farming, each month brings about 5 - 6 million VND in income.

Mr. Phan Thanh Khuong - Vice Chairman of the Gardening Association of Nghia Dan district said that over the time of raising earthworms in the district, this model is suitable for the people here, helping to ensure food sources for raising poultry and fertilizing crops, while building safe livestock and vegetable growing models... towards building a brand for local clean products.
