The situation in Myanmar is very dangerous with the outbreak of fighting between government troops and Rohingya rebels causing many deaths.

Clashes between Rohingya Muslim rebels and government troops over the past week in Rakhine state, northwest Myanmar, have left at least 400 people dead and tens of thousands of others fleeing to Bangladesh.

On September 1, the Myanmar military announced that 370 Rohingya militants were killed, 15 army soldiers and 14 civilians were also killed in military operations in Rakhine state over the past week.

Meanwhile, the latest figures from the United Nations show that at least 38,000 people from Myanmar, mainly the Rohingya ethnic minority, have fled to Bangladesh.

There are still about 20,000 people stranded at the border between the two countries. Many of them are swimming across the Naf River, the natural border between the two countries, to Bangladesh.

On September 1, 18 bodies were found on the Bangladesh side of the river, bringing the total number of drowned people to 41.

Faced with that situation, yesterday (September 1), UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres expressed concern over reports of the Myanmar government's military activities in Rakhine state, and called on all parties to exercise restraint and reduce tensions to avoid a humanitarian disaster.

Violence erupted on August 25 when Rohingya Muslim rebels attacked dozens of police stations in Rakhine State. In response, government troops launched bloody raids in the area./.
