The recurring cycle of "bumper harvest, low prices; high prices, poor harvest" has led to significant losses for many farmers. This is due to the spontaneous nature of production, lacking market orientation, resulting in farmers facing numerous obstacles in selling their agricultural products… Many farming households have abandoned their fields and livestock pens.

In my opinion, sustainable agricultural production requires significant attention from the government, especially in forecasting market trends and guiding crop varieties and timing. This will help the agricultural sector and related industries, as well as localities nationwide, develop effective production and business plans, accurately assess market prices for agricultural products, and implement long-term solutions for stable product procurement to ensure efficient farming for farmers.

At the same time, to enhance the value of agricultural products, it is necessary to focus on supporting post-harvest processes such as preservation, preliminary processing, and refining, in order to increase the value of domestic agricultural products. Currently, our agricultural products are mainly in raw form, so their value remains low, affecting the income of farmers.

I am very pleased that in recent years, the government has been promoting the demand for local agricultural products. As a result, many local livestock breeds are now being developed and bringing high economic value to farmers. Especially, agricultural products produced by people in mountainous areas are clean products, making them popular in the market.

I think that to exploit the potential advantages of mountainous regions, the State needs policies to attract businesses to invest in building clean, high-tech agricultural models for widespread adoption, while also guaranteeing the purchase of products from farmers, avoiding the situation where farmers produce goods without a market.

Furthermore, the most worrying issue in agricultural development today is that the State has not yet been able to control the quality and safety of agricultural products. Therefore, genuine and counterfeit products are mixed together in the market. I propose that the State pay attention to supporting farmers in building brands for their agricultural products, combined with investing in the development of clean, safe, stable, and sustainable agriculture, so that agricultural products can access large supermarkets or international markets.

People in mountainous districts like Tuong Duong face numerous difficulties in their daily agricultural production due to weather conditions, limited land resources, and restricted production equipment and the application of science and technology. Therefore, if the products are sold at low prices or become unsaleable, it negatively impacts morale, easily leading to discouragement and disruption of crop structure, with farmers cutting down some crops and abandoning others, disregarding government guidelines and planning.

Therefore, in my opinion, to reduce the problem of bumper harvests leading to price drops, farmers, in addition to complying with the plans and guidelines of officials and authorities in the production and consumption stages, need a certain level of price support for the key agricultural products of the locality.

In addition, people should focus on maximizing the use of their produce and avoid waste. I believe the biggest obstacle in this area is the farmers' mindset. People need to realize that they must change their thinking, not rely on government assistance, but proactively find markets for their own products.

My family received 5 plots of land under Decree 64. After the land reallocation, I bid for an additional 6 sao (approximately 0.6 hectares) in the field.Rai Rai. Working hard all year round, they average about 3 tons of rice per harvest. If they sell it all, they earn about 17 million dong. 3 tons of rice sounds like a lot, but 17 million dong is too small because that's the total income. After deducting costs for fertilizer, seeds, pesticides, planting, and harvesting, they only earn about 5 million dong as net profit each season, averaging less than 1 million dong per month.

Normally, we wouldn't sell our rice but would invest in livestock farming. However, this year, the price of pork is low, which has also lowered the prices of other livestock, resulting in losses. I've sold my entire herd of sows and stopped raising pigs and chickens to quickly reduce losses, but if I don't raise livestock, I don't know what else to do. I've reduced the number of rice crops, now only producing one spring crop, and I'll reduce the area even further in the future. I hope the government can find solutions to help farmers like us reduce production costs and increase the value of our agricultural products.”

To minimize the problem of falling agricultural prices, I think that higher authorities, especially the Ministry of Agriculture, need to provide guidance, forecasts, and information to farmers on what crops to plant and what livestock to raise in each production season. This would help farmers like us who produce agricultural products but cannot sell them, resulting in losses.

For example, my family has been anxious for the past few months because our herd of over 300 pigs is ready for slaughter, but very few people have come to inquire about buying them. We've had to call traders from many places to sell them at a loss. On average, we lose over 1 million dong per pig raised over four months. We know we're losing money, but we can't not sell them because feed prices haven't decreased, and we have to pay bank interest on time. We've had to resort to selling them quickly while also asking relatives to butcher the pigs and sell them everywhere, even going to markets in Cua Lo to hawk them. Therefore, we hope that the local Party committee, government, and relevant agencies will soon find solutions to help people like us find the right path to ensure peace of mind in our production.
