The mutant who hasn't slept in half a century and the 'saint who eats' 30 eggs at once
The man who has not slept for 50 years in Quang Nam and the "eating saint" Phung Van Lu in Ba Vi (Hanoi) are considered strange "mutants", causing a stir in public opinion.

Mr. Thai Ngoc is considered the strangest man in Vietnam as he has not slept for nearly 50 years. |
A short time later, he discovered that he could no longer sleep. At first, he went to some traditional medicine doctors in the village to get some medicine to take. He took it for a long time but still could not sleep. Mr. Ngoc confided: "At that time, I felt very worried." He was worried because he was afraid that such prolonged insomnia would lead to exhaustion and no one would work to support his young children. However, after a few months, he did not see any unusual signs in his body, so he was no longer afraid.

Mr. Ngoc said that even though he went to see a doctor everywhere, he could not find any illness. |
His second wife said: "He is very strange. Since the day he and I lived together, I have never seen him sleep both day and night." According to his wife, Mr. Ngoc worked hard all day. He was a champion laborer in the village. He alone worked more than one hectare of rice fields, raised buffaloes, cows, did farming... he could also carry eight ang (more than a quintal) of rice at a time.
Mr. Ngoc confirmed: "There were several times I tried to go to Da Nang for a general check-up, ultrasound, tests... but no illness was detected in my body. The only problem is not being able to sleep."
The woman with the longest hair in Vietnam
With 2.4m long hair, the woman over 40 years old, from "Sister Hai Nam Ton" (Thai Binh) was awarded by the Vietnam Guinness Record Organization as the woman with the longest and straightest hair in Vietnam on October 27, 2012.
People nicknamed her “Long-haired Lan” because her hair was longer than her body. Lan had not cut her hair for 20 years. She said she liked having long hair and thought it was beautiful and people complimented her, so she kept it and did not think of growing her hair to set a record.

"Everyone asked me if I felt tired or if my head felt heavy. I said I didn't feel anything, it was normal. Some people said I have a little hair but it drives me crazy, but with your hair like this, how can I stand it? But I think it's normal. It's only difficult when I wear a helmet and when I go to sleep," said the woman from the rice fields.
Ms. Lan shared that she washes her hair about every 3 or 4 days, and each time it takes hours. Although growing long hair consumes a lot of water, leaves, and shampoo, in return she feels happy because every time she goes out, people look back. She confided that because of her hair, her whole family has to sleep upside down on the bed. At that time, her hair falls down on the floor, not affecting the sleep of her husband and children.

Mutant with bottomless "stomach" in Ba Vi
In our country, there are still stories here and there about people who eat a lot, but eating a lot like Mr. Phung Van Lu (Tang Cau village, Dong Thai commune, Ba Vi, Hanoi) is truly a strange story.
Mr. Lu is 75 years old, small and skinny, weighing only 45kg, but he eats like a tiger, which is really strange. In the morning, he can slurp 6 bowls of pho, or 30 eggs for dessert and still not feel satisfied.

In the morning, he can eat 30 duck eggs. |
Every meal, for breakfast, lunch, and dinner, Mr. Lu boiled a whole pot of duck eggs. He only needed a plate of white salt, he would peel an egg, dip a few grains of salt, and it was enough for a bite. Each bite was an egg. He got bored of boiling eggs for 3 meals a day, so he would stir-fry them, make soup, or make tomato sauce.
Just two years ago, he tested his appetite and found that his “eating spirit” had not diminished much compared to when he was younger. In the morning, he could eat 30 duck eggs, but at noon, he still ate 20 bowls of rice.

Although Mr. Lu is small, he is very healthy and rarely gets sick. |
According to Mr. Lu, if he likes to eat something, he has to eat it until he is full and eat until he is bored. When he gets bored with a dish, he changes his taste to another dish. He gets bored with duck eggs, so he gradually starts eating meat ducks. When he eats duck, he only focuses on duck dishes. There are all kinds of dishes: grilled duck, stir-fried duck with lemongrass and chili, boiled duck, stewed duck, fake dog meat duck, etc. Then, in no time, the ducks in the pond are all gone.
Head of Dong Thai Commune Health Station, Doctor Nien said: "Until now, I have never seen Mr. Lu come to the health station for a medical examination. The fact that he has been able to eat so much without any problems proves that his body is still healthy and can tolerate it. But eating so much but still being skinny and not fat could be because Mr. Lu works too much or his body does not absorb nutrients."
Strange story about the tallest man in Vietnam
That is Tran Thanh Pho - the current holder of the Vietnam Guinness record for height.
In 1965, when he turned 18, like many young men at that time, Tran Quang (real name Tran Thanh Pho) joined the army. During the war years, he participated in fighting on the Quang Tri front. In a battle in 1972, due to a tunnel collapse, Tran Quang was seriously injured and had to be hospitalized.

According to the “giant”, after 2 years of treatment in the hospital, he almost lost his memory, his height and weight increased rapidly. From 1.68m tall and 68kg, Tran Quang grew to over 2.28m tall and 115kg. Doctors concluded that his body had hyperpituitarism. Medicine had to intervene with chemicals and radiation to inhibit growth.
By 1974, when he had recovered, Tran Quang realized that he had become a “giant”. Carrying an oversized body, his life had become different from others. The center staff had to chisel doors to fit his height. The two sofas in the room were also tall to fit the user.
