The mutant who hasn't slept for half a century and the 'saint who eats' 30 eggs at once
The man who has not slept for 50 years in Quang Nam and the "eating saint" Phung Van Lu in Ba Vi (Hanoi) are considered strange "mutants", causing a stir in public opinion.

This strange man's full name is Mr. Thai Ngoc (75 years old). He and his wife live on a farm in the remote Na Trang valley in Trung Phuoc, Que Son district (Quang Nam).
This man’s strange story of insomnia began in 1974, when he was 30 years old. At that time, Mr. Ngoc was an ordinary farmer, with a wife and two children. When his second child was born, his wife passed away.

Mr. Thai Ngoc is considered the strangest man in Vietnam as he has not slept for nearly 50 years. |
A short time later, he found that he could no longer sleep. At first, he went to some traditional Chinese medicine doctors in the village to get some medicine to take. He took it for a long time but still could not sleep. Mr. Ngoc confided: "At that time, I felt very worried." He was worried because he was afraid that such prolonged insomnia would lead to exhaustion and no one would work to support his young children. However, after a few months, he did not see any unusual signs in his body, so he was no longer afraid.

Mr. Ngoc said that even though he went to see a doctor everywhere, he could not find any illness. |
His second wife said: "He is very strange. Since the day he and I lived together, I have never seen him sleep both day and night." According to his wife, Mr. Ngoc works hard all day. He is a person with the best labor force in the village. He alone works more than one hectare of rice fields, raises buffaloes, cows, does farming... he can also carry eight jars of rice (more than a quintal) at a time.
Mr. Ngoc confirmed: "There were several times I tried to go to Da Nang for a general check-up, ultrasound, tests... but no illness was detected in my body. The only problem is not being able to sleep."
The woman with the longest hair in Vietnam
With 2.4m long hair, the woman over 40 years old, from "Chi Hai Nam Tan" (Thai Binh) was awarded the title of the woman with the longest and straightest hair in Vietnam by the Vietnam Guinness Record Organization on October 27, 2012.
People nicknamed her “Long-haired Lan” because her hair was longer than her body. Lan had not cut her hair for 20 years. She said that she liked having long hair and that people complimented her, so she kept it and did not think of growing her hair to set a record.

"Everyone asked me if I felt tired or if my head felt heavy, I said no, it was normal. Some people said I had a little hair but it drove me crazy, but with your hair like this, how could I stand it, but I felt normal, it was only difficult when I wore a helmet and when I went to sleep," said the woman from the rice fields.
Ms. Lan shared that she washes her hair about every 3 or 4 days, and each time it takes hours. Although growing long hair consumes a lot of water, leaves, and shampoo, in return she feels happy because every time she goes out, people look back. She also confided that because of her hair, her whole family has to sleep upside down on the bed. At that time, her hair falls down on the floor, not affecting the sleep of her husband and children.

Mutant with bottomless "stomach" in Ba Vi

In 1965, when he turned 18, like many young men at that time, Tran Quang (real name Tran Thanh Pho) joined the army. During the war years, he fought on the Quang Tri front. In a battle in 1972, due to a tunnel collapse, Tran Quang was seriously injured and had to be hospitalized.

According to the “giant”, after 2 years of treatment in the hospital, he almost lost his memory, and his height and weight increased rapidly. From 1.68m tall and 68kg, Tran Quang grew to over 2.28m tall and weighed 115kg. Doctors concluded that his body had hyperpituitarism. Medicine had to intervene with chemicals and radiation to inhibit his growth.
It was not until 1974, when he recovered, that Tran Quang realized that he had become a “giant”. Carrying an oversized body, his life became different from others. The center’s staff had to carve doors to fit his height. The two sofas in the room were also tall to fit the user.
