(Baonghean.vn) - With the recent 5-0 victory over Cambodia in the 2019 Asian Cup qualifiers, and the defeat of many other teams, the Vietnam national team has risen 9 places to 121st in the world.

Today (October 16), the International Football Federation (FIFA) announced the October rankings for men's national teams around the world. Specifically, in the newly updated FIFA rankings for October, the Vietnam national team has risen 9 places to 121st in the world, 17 places above its regional rival Thailand.

Currently in Southeast Asia, the Vietnam National Team is only behind the Philippines (ranked 116) and 17 places higher than Thailand (ranked 138), followed by Myanmar (155) and Laos (162).

In the continent, Iran (ranked 34th in the world), Australia (43), Japan (44), China (57) and South Korea (62) are the top 5 teams, while Vietnam's position is 21st.

Recently, new coach Park Hang Seo announced his goal during his 2 years and 2 months leading the Vietnam National Team is to bring the team into the top 100 on the FIFA rankings.

Thus, if he gets points from victories in the upcoming matches, especially a ticket to the 2019 ASIAN Cup Finals, the Korean coach's position in the Top 100 is relatively feasible.

In the past, Vietnamese football was in the Top 100 in 1996, 1998, 2000, 2003 and 2011.
