Top 10 largest seaports in Vietnam
(Baonghean.vn) -According to data from the Ministry of Transport, Vietnam currently has 49 large and small seaports, including 10 major seaports that are considered powerful tools for promoting economic development and integration with the world.
1. Hai Phong Port

This is the busiest seaport in Northern Vietnam, with a modern equipment system, complete and safe infrastructure suitable for international transport and trade. The wharf here is 2,567 meters long, the warehouse area is 52,052 m2, and it can handle approximately 10 million tons of cargo annually.
Due to significant siltation in the channel, the port can only accommodate ships of 6,000-7,000 DWT. According to the Ministry of Transport's plan, Hai Phong port will be upgraded, its equipment improved, and two berths built at Dinh Vu to allow ships of 20,000 DWT to navigate easily, increasing its cargo handling capacity to 25-30 million tons per year.
2. Vung Tau Port (Ba Ria - Vung Tau)

Vung Tau Port is a major seaport in the Southeast region of Vietnam. It is a national-level integrated seaport complex and an international hub for Vietnam.
Currently, Vung Tau Port comprises four wharf areas: Cai Mep, Sao Mai, and Ben Dinh wharves; Phu My and My Xuan wharves; Dinh River wharves; and Dam and Con Dao wharves.
According to the plan, from now until 2020, two more port areas will be built: Long Son - specializing in serving the petrochemical industry; and Sao Mai and Ben Dinh passenger ports - specializing in passenger transport.
3. Van Phong Port (Khanh Hoa)

Van Phong Port, located in Van Phong Bay, Khanh Hoa province, is the largest international transshipment port project in Vietnam. According to planners, Van Phong Bay has great potential for the construction of a central port.
Van Phong Port comprises two terminal areas: My Giang Terminal, located in the southern part of Van Phong Bay, specializes in oil and oil products. It has the capacity to receive liquid cargo vessels up to 350,000 DWT and is projected to reach 400,000 DWT by 2020.
The Dốc Lết and Ninh Thủy port area, located southwest of Vân Phong Bay, is primarily used for bulk cargo.
4. Quy Nhon Port (Binh Dinh Province)

Quy Nhon Port is located in Quy Nhon Bay, sheltered by the Phuong Mai peninsula, making it ideal for year-round anchoring and cargo handling. It can accommodate vessels up to 30,000 DWT (normal operation) and 50,000 DWT (reduced load).
With its location as the gateway to the East Sea for the South Central region, the Central Highlands, and countries in the Mekong River region, Quy Nhon port is situated close to international shipping routes, making it very convenient for foreign ships to navigate.
Quy Nhon Port is well-known to many domestic and international shipowners and cargo owners for its high productivity and quality, meeting the need for fast ship turnaround, and its infrastructure and equipment are qualified to receive and handle oversized and overweight cargo.
5. Quang Ninh Port

Quang Ninh Port is a deep-water seaport located in the key economic zone of Northern Vietnam, with favorable natural conditions for investment, construction, and operation of seaports.
The synchronized and convenient waterway and road network connecting to neighboring economic zones, along with natural factors such as deep bays near the sea, short channels with minimal siltation, and minimal impact from waves and wind due to being surrounded by Ha Long Bay, have helped Quang Ninh Port to continuously develop and expand over the years.
6. Saigon Port (Ho Chi Minh City)

Saigon Port is a system of seaports in Ho Chi Minh City (Tan Cang Cat Lai, Cai Mep, Hiep Phuoc, etc.) that serves as the gateway to the South (including the Southeast region and the Mekong Delta) for export and import activities.
The port comprises general cargo and container terminal areas, including: Hiep Phuoc Port on the Soai Rap River; and Cat Lai Port on the Dong Nai River.
Saigon Port has planned to build additional terminals in Can Giuoc and Go Cong on the Soai Rap River, located in Long An and Tien Giang provinces, with the goal of creating satellite terminals for the main terminals within the port.
In 2015, Ho Chi Minh City Port was honored to be ranked among the top 25 container ports in the world.
7. Cua Lo Port (Nghe An)

Cua Lo Port, with its function as a multi-purpose port, meets the import and export needs of businesses in Nghe An province and neighboring provinces in the North Central region, as well as some transit goods from Laos and Northeast Thailand.
The total planned area of Cua Lo port is 450 hectares. The port has 6 berths, of which 4 are already in operation. Currently, Tuan Loc Construction Investment Joint Stock Company is implementing the investment project for berths No. 5 and No. 6, which are expected to be completed around the end of 2017.
8. Dung Quat Port (Quang Ngai)

Dung Quat Port is a national, regional, and comprehensive seaport located in Quang Ngai province; it has been in operation since the end of 2008. Dung Quat International Port is considered a modern commercial port that has played and continues to play a significant role in attracting investment to the Dung Quat economic zone and neighboring industrial parks.
This is a general cargo terminal, a container terminal for ships with a deadweight tonnage of 10,000 - 30,000 DWT, and a specialized terminal for heavy industry that can accommodate ships from 20,000 - 70,000 DWT.
9. Chan May Port (Thua Thien Hue)

Chan May Port is a Class I integrated seaport in Vietnam. It is one of 46 seaports selected by the Asian Cruise Association to be developed as a stopover point for cruise ships in Southeast Asia.
Chan May Port is strategically located along the sea route connecting Singapore, the Philippines, and Hong Kong, making it convenient for receiving ships for docking and loading/unloading cargo.
Furthermore, Chan May Port is located in the central part of Vietnam, between the two largest cities in Central Vietnam: Hue and Da Nang, and key national tourist areas: Canh Duong, Lang Co, Hai Van and Bach Ma National Park, playing the role of the most convenient gateway to the East Sea for regions within the East-West Economic Corridor.
10. Da Nang Port

With a history of 115 years of construction and development, Da Nang Port has proven its important position in the economic development of the region, as well as affirming its stature as the largest seaport in Central Vietnam.
Located in Da Nang Bay, Da Nang Port has a convenient transportation system and plays a crucial role in the logistics service chain of the central region of Vietnam.
Besides being the main gateway to the East Sea, Da Nang Port has also been chosen as the final destination in the East-West Economic Corridor, connecting four countries in the region: Myanmar, Thailand, Laos, and Vietnam.
