Top 10 largest seaports in Vietnam
(Baonghean.vn) -According to the Ministry of Transport, our country currently has 49 large and small seaports, of which 10 large seaports are considered effective arms, promoting economic development and integration with the world.
1. Hai Phong Port

This is the seaport with the largest cargo traffic in the North of Vietnam, with a modern equipment system, complete infrastructure, safety and suitability for international transportation and trade. The wharf here is 2,567 meters long, the warehouse area is 52,052 m2 and can handle about 10 million tons of goods annually.
Due to the port's large alluvial channel, it can only receive ships of 6,000 - 7,000 DWT. According to the plan of the Ministry of Transport, Hai Phong port will be upgraded, equipment will be completed and 2 berths will be built at Dinh Vu so that ships of 20,000 DWT can easily circulate, bringing the customs clearance capacity to 25 - 30 million tons/year.
2. Vung Tau Port (Ba Ria - Vung Tau)

Vung Tau Port is a large seaport in the Southeast of Vietnam. This is a national-level comprehensive seaport cluster - an international hub of Vietnam.
Currently, Vung Tau Port consists of 4 wharf areas: Cai Mep, Sao Mai, Ben Dinh wharf areas; Phu My, My Xuan wharf areas; Dinh River wharf areas; Dam, Con Dao wharf areas.
According to the plan from now until 2020, two more Long Son port areas will be built - specializing in serving the petrochemical industry; Sao Mai and Ben Dinh passenger ports - specializing in serving passenger transport.
3. Van Phong Port (Khanh Hoa)

Van Phong Port, located in Van Phong Bay, Khanh Hoa Province, is the largest international transit port project in Vietnam. According to planners, Van Phong Bay has great potential for building a central port.
Van Phong Port consists of two wharf areas: My Giang wharf area located in the South of Van Phong Bay: specialized for oil and oil products. Capacity to receive liquid cargo ships up to 350,000 DWT and expected to be 400,000 DWT by 2020.
Doc Let wharf area, Ninh Thuy is located in the southwest of Van Phong Bay: specialized for bulk cargo.
4. Quy Nhon Port (Binh Dinh)

Quy Nhon Port is located in Quy Nhon Bay, sheltered by Phuong Mai Peninsula, sheltered from the wind, making it very convenient for ships to anchor and load and unload goods all year round. It can accommodate ships up to 30,000 DWT in normal traffic and ships up to 50,000 DWT (reduced load).
With its location as the gateway to the East Sea of the South Central region, the Central Highlands and countries in the Mekong River region, Quy Nhon port is located close to the international shipping route, making it very convenient for foreign ships to circulate.
Quy Nhon Port is known by many domestic and foreign ship owners and cargo owners for its high productivity and quality, meeting the needs of quick ship clearance, infrastructure and equipment qualified to receive and unload oversized and overweight cargo.
5. Quang Ninh Port

Quang Ninh Port is a deep-water seaport located in the key economic region of Northern Vietnam, with favorable natural conditions for investment in construction and exploitation of seaport business.
The synchronous and convenient waterway and road system to neighboring economic zones, along with natural factors such as deep lagoons near the sea, short channels with little sedimentation, and less affected by waves and winds due to being surrounded by Ha Long Bay, have helped Quang Ninh Port to continuously develop and expand over the years.
6. Saigon Port (Ho Chi Minh City)

Saigon Port is a system of seaports in Ho Chi Minh City (Tan Cang Cat Lai, Cai Mep, Hiep Phuoc, ...) that plays the role of the gateway to the South (including the Southeast and the Mekong Delta) in export and import activities.
The port includes general port areas and container ports including: Hiep Phuoc Port on Soai Rap River; Cat Lai Port on Dong Nai River.
Saigon Port has planned to build additional wharf areas in Can Giuoc and Go Cong on the Soai Rap River, in Long An and Tien Giang provinces, with the goal of being satellite wharf areas for the main wharf areas inside the port.
In 2015, Ho Chi Minh City Port was honored to be in the top 25 container ports in the world.
7. Cua Lo Port (Nghe An)

Cua Lo Port is a general port area, meeting the needs of import and export of goods for businesses in Nghe An province and neighboring provinces in the North Central region, and a part of transit goods from Laos and Northeastern Thailand.
The total planned area of Cua Lo port is 450 hectares. The port has 6 wharves, of which 4 are already in operation. Currently, Tuan Loc Construction Investment Joint Stock Company is implementing the investment project for wharves 5 and 6 and will be completed by the end of 2017.
8. Dung Quat Port (Quang Ngai)

Dung Quat Port is a national general seaport, a regional hub in Quang Ngai province; put into operation since the end of 2008. Dung Quat International Port is considered a modern commercial port that has been making an important contribution to attracting investment in Dung Quat economic zones and neighboring industrial parks.
This is a general wharf area, a container wharf for ships with a capacity of 10,000 - 30,000 DWT and a specialized wharf for heavy industry that can receive ships from 20,000 - 70,000 DWT.
9. Chan May Port (Thua Thien Hue)

Chan May Port is a comprehensive seaport of type I in our country. This is one of 46 seaports selected by the Asian Cruise Association to be built as a stopover for cruise ships in the Southeast Asia region.
Chan May Port is conveniently located between the sea routes connecting Singapore, the Philippines and Hong Kong, making it convenient for receiving ships, anchoring, and loading and unloading goods.
In addition, Chan May Port is also located in the center of Vietnam, between the two largest cities in the Central region: Hue and Da Nang, the national key tourist areas: Canh Duong, Lang Co, Hai Van and Bach Ma National Park), and plays the role of the most convenient gateway to the East Sea for regions in the East-West Economic Corridor.
10. Danang Port

With a history of 115 years of construction and development, Da Nang Port has proven its important position in economic development in the region, as well as affirming its stature as the largest seaport in Central Vietnam.
Da Nang Port is located in Da Nang Bay, has a convenient transportation system and plays an important role in the logistics service chain of the Central region of our country.
In addition to being the main gateway to the East Sea, Da Nang Port was also chosen as the final destination in the East-West Economic Corridor, connecting four countries in the region: Myanmar, Thailand, Laos and Vietnam./.
