Tilapia farming under VietGAP standards yields over 15 tons/ha.

(Baonghean.vn) - The model of raising monosex tilapia according to VietGAP standards in Duc Thanh commune, Yen Thanh district, has yielded positive results, with a survival rate of 85% and an expected yield of 15.3 tons/ha.

Implemented since April 2017, the model of raising monosex tilapia according to VietGAP standards was deployed at the household of Mr. Nguyen Quy Cu in Chau Linh hamlet, Duc Thanh commune, on a water surface area of ​​0.5 hectares; with a stocking density of 5 fish/m².2The model is the responsibility of the Yen Thanh Agricultural Extension Station.

Based on practical evaluation, the model yielded positive results, with a fish survival rate of 85%, an expected yield of 15.3 tons/ha, an increase of over 18% compared to the control model; all technical indicators met and exceeded the set requirements. After deducting expenses, the model generated a profit of over 23 million VND during the 6-month farming period.

Tilapia, a monosex fish, is easy to raise, grows quickly, is less susceptible to disease, and has delicious meat; it can be processed for export. Therefore, raising tilapia according to the VietGAP model has opened a new direction in the development of aquaculture. Currently, Yen Thanh has a stable market for its products, ensuring food safety and hygiene, and creating jobs for rural workers.

At a recent workshop, delegates suggested that the Nghe An Agricultural Extension Center continue implementing the model in other ecological sub-regions during the 2018-2020 period, contributing to the socio-economic development of the locality.
