Father prosecuted for stabbing 5-year-old son to death

According to the case file, Minh and Ms. Vo Thi Ngoc Dieu (born in 1978; residing in Hoi Thuong Ward, Pleiku City) got married and had a son, Vo Kim Phat (born in 2012). Around August 2017, the couple divorced.

At around 9pm on December 11, Minh went to a drinking place on Nguyen Tat Thanh Street, Pleiku City to look for his son. When he arrived at the restaurant, he saw Phat playing outside the door, so Minh immediately picked him up and took him away. At this time, Ms. Dieu and some family members saw this and rushed out to hold him back, but Minh took a knife and stabbed Don Trai in the left chest, causing the blade to break. Phat died on the way to the hospital because the wound punctured his heart.

Minh then pulled out a pair of scissors with the intention of committing suicide but was not restrained by the people around him and handed over to the police.

According to many people, 1 year ago, Minh suffered a traumatic brain injury due to a traffic accident. Before the incident, Minh had repeatedly wanted Phat to come live with him, so he had a conflict with his ex-wife.
