The SMW3 submarine cable has been restored.

The SMW3 system has successfully been brought back online, and all international communication from Vietnam via SMW3 has been restored.

Regarding the incident on the SMW3 submarine cable, VNA, citing the latest information from a VNPT representative, reported that at 3 PM on December 15th, the SMW3 system completed the replacement of power equipment at the TUAS station (Singapore), and then successfully restored power. All international communication from Vietnam via SMW3 has been restored.

Earlier, at 5:10 AM on October 10th, an incident occurred on the SMW3 international submarine fiber optic cable. VNPT prioritized traffic routing and implemented a contingency plan to restore traffic on other cable routes such as the APG and AAE-1 international submarine fiber optic cables and the CSC terrestrial international cable to ensure maximum Internet service quality for the APEC 2017 Conference and its customers during the incident.

The SEA-ME-WE 3 (SMW3) cable, also known as the Southeast Asia-Middle East-West Europe 3 fiber optic cable, is the only fiber optic cable that connects Asia through India to Europe; the other cables all go towards the Americas via Guam and Hawaii.

Launched in September 1999, SMW3 is a submarine fiber optic cable using wavelength division multiplexing technology with a system capacity of 320 Gbps, connecting Vietnam with 39 countries worldwide. In Vietnam, this submarine fiber optic cable lands ashore in Da Nang.
