(Baonghean.vn) - In the 2016-2017 crop year, Quy Hop and Nghia Dan districts conducted trial plantings of approximately 500 hectares of the KK3 sugarcane variety from Thailand, with some areas achieving yields of around 150 tons/ha.

500 hectares of KK3 sugarcane have been planted in Nghia Dan and Quy Hop districts since 2017. In Nghia Dan district alone, the total area is 206 hectares, scattered across many communes. Farmers receive sugarcane seedlings on loan from the sugar factory and utilize services such as proper plowing techniques, planting, and mechanized herbicide spraying.

The results showed that the KK3 sugarcane variety from Thailand has many good characteristics: high yield and sugar content, good ratooning, no flowering, and good disease resistance.

After a year of trial planting, the KK3 sugarcane variety achieved an average yield of 90-100 tons/ha, with Nghia Thinh commune reaching approximately 150 tons/ha, the highest in the entire region. Nasu Sugar Factory is planning to expand the area planted with KK3 sugarcane in the 2017-2018 crop year.

Nghia Dan district has nearly 7,800 hectares of sugarcane, mainly old varieties such as QD139, LK 92-11… However, due to long-term cultivation, there is a risk of degeneration, especially sugarcane grassy shoot disease, for which there is currently no effective treatment. The factory is planning to introduce new, high-yielding sugarcane varieties to replace the old ones, and the KK3 variety is a good choice for farmers.
