Violinist Hoang Rob speaks out about rumors of demanding a $3,000 fee.
During the launch of the DVD "Dawn" in USD format, the 9X violinist explained the information regarding his high fee demands.
Exactly one year after his "Dawn" live concert, violinist Hoang Rob has released a DVD of the program to mark his artistic journey. The DVD features all 17 live performances by Hoang Rob with a 30-member symphony orchestra and several famous guest artists such as singer Thu Phuong, traditional Vietnamese singer Kieu Anh, "the peacock of the dance world" Linh Nga, erhu artist Tran Van Xam, and the group GEN9... Notably, Hoang Rob released the DVD in USD format, alongside the classical disc version. This is considered the first USD-format DVD in Vietnam.
The 9X violinist said that the USB format will help audiences access his work more widely through smart devices such as TVs, laptops, and tablets. According to Hoang Rob, the violin is often considered "academic" and difficult for most audiences to appreciate. Therefore, bringing his violin music to a wider audience through USB format is a logical approach.

During a press conference in Hanoi yesterday afternoon (December 27th), Hoang Rob admitted that he hadn't released any new music for the past year because he was busy performing at shows to earn money. Regarding rumors that he demanded $3,000 per show, he explained: "When I first started playing music in cafes and tea rooms in 2012, my fee was only 400,000 VND. Now, the fee is more than 100 times higher than before, but the information about demanding $3,000 for a show isn't entirely accurate. If I perform at high-end, large-scale art events that require 1-2 months of rehearsal, I can't charge a cheap fee. But for charity shows, the fee doesn't really matter to me. This past year, I've been very happy to start collaborating with some designers to play music in fashion shows."
Despite being a young violinist, in the last two years, Hoang Rob has invested heavily in music videos and even held his own concert at the Grand Theatre. When asked about the funding for these large-scale artistic projects, he said: "I have sufficient financial resources to produce these works, and I also have many sponsors supporting me. I know there are rumors that my family is very wealthy, but let them spread rumors. What matters is whether my work is of high quality and is recognized by the public."

Hoang Rob also revealed that he has accumulated a considerable amount of money from his performance fees to release two albums with different styles simultaneously in 2018, including one vinyl record. He will invite several well-known artists to participate in his album, such as diva Ha Tran, Thu Phuong, Le Hieu, and singer Kieu Anh... He also plans to bring his "Dawn" live concert to Saigon but will rebuild the concept to be more entertainment-oriented, to suit the tastes of Southern audiences.
