Man Utd lost both Lukaku and Ibrahimovic

Jose Mourinho confirmed that both strikers he has at his disposal are injured and will be out for a long time.

Romelu Lukaku collided head-on with Southampton defender Wesley Hoedt in the match on the evening of December 30, and had to leave the field at the beginning of the first half. The Belgian striker was treated for about five minutes on the field, before being given oxygen and being stretchered off the field.

"I don't know his specific condition yet. I think everything is progressing normally, because if there is bad news, it will be reported immediately. But I haven't received any information yet," Jose Mourinho shared after the 0-0 draw with Southampton. "But when Lukaku is sent out by the doctors without a second thought, from my experience, I think he will miss at least two matches."

Lukaku's most likely replacement in the striker position, Zlatan Ibrahimovic, is also injured, and was not on the match list on the evening of December 30. This news was confirmed by Mourinho when he announced: "He will be absent for about a month. The pain is in the knee. That is a big problem for Ibrahimovic because he is 36 years old, and has just returned from injury."

Sky Sports said Man Utd will definitely not be able to have the services of both strikers in the first match of 2018, against Everton."We started the game badly without our main striker and without a good replacement on the bench," Mourinho said of his team's poor form. "We only had one replacement for the attack for the remaining 80 minutes."

Without their number one striker, Man Utd have gone four consecutive games without a win and three consecutive draws in the Premier League. They therefore lost second place to Chelsea, after Antonio Conte's team beat Stoke City 5-0.

However, Man Utd seem to have no plans to strengthen their attack in the winter transfer market. "I really don't know the board's plan," Mourinho confided. "But I'm satisfied with the attitude of my students. They are eager to fight, so I can't criticize anything."

In the current Man Utd squad, Marcus Rashford and Anthony Martial can play as strikers. However, both have often drifted out to the wings in the first half of this season.
