At 4:00 a.m. on January 4, the center of the tropical depression is located at about 11.7 degrees North latitude; 111.8 degrees East longitude, about 300km east of the mainland of Phu Yen-Ninh Thuan provinces. The strongest wind in the area near the center of the tropical depression is level 6-7 (40-60km/hour),level 9.

Forecast for the next 12 hours,The tropical depression moves west, then is likely to change direction to move west-southwest at 20km per hour and weaken into a low pressure area. At 4:00 p.m. on January 4, the center of the low pressure area was at about 11.3 degrees North latitude; 109.3 degrees East longitude, over the sea of ​​Ninh Thuan-Ben Tre provinces. The strongest wind in the center of the low pressure area decreased to below level 6 (ie below 40km/hour).
