British Prime Minister prepares to announce several changes in his cabinet
Theresa May is also expected to announce the position of First Secretary of State (equivalent to Deputy Prime Minister), after a long-time ally of May, Damian Green, was forced to leave this position.
The British newspaper Sunday Times has just reported that Prime Minister Theresa May will announce a number of changes in the cabinet on January 8. However, the ministers of foreign affairs, home affairs, finance and the minister in charge of Brexit will not change.
Mrs. May is also expected to announce the position of First Secretary of State (equivalent to Deputy Prime Minister), after a long-time ally of Mrs. May, Mr. Damian Green, was forced to leave this position last month.
According to the Sunday Times, a number of cabinet officials will lose their positions or be replaced, including Conservative Party Chairman Patrick McLoughlin, Education Secretary Justine Greening and Trade Secretary Greg Clark.
The expected cabinet reshuffle comes as Prime Minister May's Conservative Party is trailing closely behind the Labour Party in recent opinion polls and is divided internally over negotiations on the future relationship between Britain and the European Union (EU) after the country is expected to leave the EU in 2019./.
