The British Prime Minister is preparing to announce some cabinet changes.
Theresa May is also expected to announce the new First Secretary of State (equivalent to Deputy Prime Minister), following the departure of a longtime ally, Damian Green, from the position.
The British newspaper Sunday Times has just reported that Prime Minister Theresa May will announce some cabinet changes on January 8th. However, the foreign minister, home minister, finance minister, and minister responsible for Brexit will remain unchanged.
It is also expected that May will announce the position of First Secretary of State (equivalent to Deputy Prime Minister), after a long-time ally of hers, Damian Green, was forced to leave the position last month.
According to the Sunday Times, several cabinet officials are set to lose their jobs or be replaced, including Conservative Party leader Patrick McLoughlin, Education Minister Justine Greening, and Trade Minister Greg Clark.
The upcoming cabinet reshuffle comes as Prime Minister May's Conservative Party is being closely pursued by the Labour Party in recent opinion polls and is internally divided over negotiations on the future relationship between Britain and the European Union (EU) after the country is scheduled to leave the EU in 2019.
