According to the indictment, around April 2016, Nguyen Thanh Duc met Vu Di Hanh and his wife Tran Thi Tuyet Huong. After a period of time, Duc and Huong developed a romantic relationship.
After many ups and downs in this unethical relationship, in September 2016, Duc was arrested by the Investigation Police Agency of Di Linh District Police (Lam Dong) for theft of property, so the relationship between Duc and Huong was interrupted.
After being released on bail due to the replacement of preventive measures, from December 14 to 16, 2016, Duc had the opportunity to eat and sleep in the same place with Mr. Hanh's family (in Tien Yen village, Loc Duc commune, Bao Lam district) and had the intention of killing Mr. Hanh to free his lover.
To carry out this intention, Duc used a Thai knife to kill Mr. Hanh while the victim was sleeping, wrapped the body in a blanket, and took it to the coffee garden in front of the house to bury.
Fearing discovery, on the night of December 16, 2016, Duc dug up the victim's body, took it to Mr. Nguyen Thanh Hai's coffee garden (in Loc An commune, Bao Lam district) and dug a hole to bury it.
On February 15, 2017, Duc and Huong were arrested by the police.
On February 21, 2017, the Investigation Police Agency of Lam Dong Province Police initiated a case and prosecuted Nguyen Thanh Duc for murder and Tran Thi Tuyet Huong for concealing a crime.
At this appeal hearing, finding that the case had no new details or mitigating circumstances, and that defendant Nguyen Thanh Duc was no longer capable of reform and needed to be removed from society, the Trial Panel of the Ho Chi Minh City High People's Court upheld the first instance sentence of death./.
