Growing thin-skinned, juicy seedless lemons in Do Luong
(Baonghean.vn) - To increase farmers' income, at the end of January 2018, the Do Luong District Agricultural Extension Station built a seedless lemon growing model in the communes of Dai Son, Thuan Son, Boi Son, and Xuan Son.
From the center of Thuan Son commune, passing through many red hills, together with the district agricultural extension staff, we visited the hill garden model combined with livestock farming of Ms. Tran Thi Nghia's family. Currently, on the large hill area, she has renovated and planted 1,000 seedless lemon trees. Ms. Nghia said that her family is very excited to participate in the project, and will try to take good care of it to achieve economic efficiency.
The seedless lemon planting project was handed over by the Department of Science and Technology to the Do Luong District Agricultural Extension Station for investment on an area of 5 hectares, distributed to 6 farms in Dai Son, Thuan Son, Boi Son, and Xuan Son communes.

Mr. Tang Van Hong - engineer of the Do Luong District Agricultural Extension Station said: "Before farmers started planting, the station organized tree planting training and practical guidance to help farmers master the techniques. During the planting process, the station sent staff directly to the garden to guide the stages of soil treatment, digging holes, planting and care."

The advantage of the seedless lemon variety is that the tree bears fruit all year round, after 2 years of planting it will be harvested; it can be harvested for over 10 years before having to be cut down. The seedless lemon tree produces large fruit, 6 - 7 fruits/kg, thin skin, juicy, sour taste and aromatic. After picking, the fruit only needs to be stored in normal conditions, can be kept for a long time, the skin is fresh green.
Besides, the cost of investing in growing seedless lemons is not high, and the care process is not difficult. With an area of 1 hectare, 30 - 40 tons of fruit will be harvested per year. According to aMr. Le Van Chien - Deputy of Agricultural Extension Station, for seedless lemons, the current consumption market is very large. After successfully implementing the model, we will continue to expand so that seedless lemons become the main commodity.
