Robber arrested after slashing female doctor while sneaking home
The robber who slashed a female doctor, leaving her seriously injured, has just been arrested after more than 2 months of committing the crime.
Regarding the case of a female doctor being robbed and injured in Saigon in mid-November 2017, the latest development was that on the evening of February 3, District 9 Police, Ho Chi Minh City, arrested the suspect. The suspect was identified as Mai Thanh Dat (born in 1999, residing locally).

As reported, in the early morning of November 15, Ms. A (born in 1964, residing in District 9) walked from her house in Phuoc Long B Ward, District 9 to Hanoi Highway to catch a bus to her workplace in Dong Nai. While she was walking along a small road, a few dozen meters from Hanoi Highway, a young man on a motorbike suddenly appeared from behind.
The young man grabbed Ms. A's hair, used a weapon to attack her, slashed her head and arms, causing injuries. Then he grabbed her handbag and sped away.

People took Mrs. A to the emergency room. In her statement to the police afterwards, Mrs. A said that the stolen handbag contained 1.6 million VND, an Iphone 6 mobile phone, and some documents and personal belongings.
Ms. A is a doctor and is currently working at a private medical facility in Dong Nai.
During the investigation, District 9 Police determined that this was a daring and dangerous robbery, so they established a special task force to fight it. After that, the police narrowed down the area and determined that Dat was the suspect who had committed the crime but had fled the area.
On the night of February 3, Dat sneaked back to a relative's house in Phuoc Long A ward, District 9 and was arrested by District 9 police detectives.
At the police station, Dat admitted to using a machete to slash Mrs. A and rob her property in mid-November 2017 as mentioned above. Dat also stated that he was addicted to crystal meth and robbed to get money to buy drugs.
In addition, Dat also confessed that he and a number of other individuals, whose identities are currently unknown, had committed extremely dangerous slashing and robbery cases in the suburbs. Currently, District 9 Police are in the process of expanding the investigation.
