How to open a car trunk when you've lost your keys.
There may be times when you are unable to unlock your car trunk because you've lost or forgotten your keys. This is extremely inconvenient if you have important items in the trunk.
Step 1:
|
Use a thin metal rod to open the car door. You can open a car door using a specialized thin metal rod. These rods can be purchased at most auto repair shops.
Step 2:
|
Insert the iron rod into the gap between the car window glass and the door frame, making sure the end with the hook is facing downwards.
Step 3:
|
Move the iron rod back and forth until it reaches the lock release lever. Gently hook the end of the rod onto the lock release lever and slowly pull upwards until the lock opens. If you hear a small click, congratulations, you have successfully opened the door lock.
Note that this type of metal rod will not work for cars that use electronic locks. In that case, you should call a locksmith if there is no other way to open the car door.
Step 4:
|
Open the trunk using the release button on the front seat. Once the car door is open, get into the car and use the latch or button to unlock the trunk.
If the latch and buttons on the seat are not working because the car has no power, move to the back seat to find the rear seat folding lever.
Step 5:
|
Many car models have a mechanism for folding down the rear seats. If you're unsure of the exact location, consult your car's owner's manual for more information.
Once you've pressed the seat folding lever, you can fold down the rear seats to access the trunk.
Step 6:
|
Crawl into the trunk and look for the unlocking latch inside. This latch usually glows in the dark, making it easy to find.
Step 7:
|
Once you've found the latch, pull it firmly and the trunk will open instantly.
Some car models manufactured before 2002 do not have a mechanism to unlock the trunk from the inside. If your car is one of these models, call a professional locksmith for assistance.
