How to open car trunk when lost key
There will be some cases where you cannot unlock the trunk of your car due to lost or forgotten keys. This is extremely inconvenient if there are important items in the trunk.
Step 1:
Use a spudger to open the car door. You can open the car door using a spudger. These spudgers can be purchased at most auto repair shops.
Step 2:
Insert the iron rod into the gap between the car door glass and the door frame, making sure the hooked end is facing down.
Step 3:
Move the metal rod back and forth until it reaches the latch. Gently hook the end of the rod into the latch and slowly pull it up until the lock is released. If you hear a small click, congratulations, you have unlocked the door.
Note that this type of iron rod will not open car models that use electronic locks. In that case, you should call a locksmith if there is no other way to open the car door.
Step 4:
Open the trunk using the release button on the front seat. Once you have opened the door, get in and use the latch or key to unlock the trunk.
If the latch and buttons above do not work because the car has no power, move to the back seat to find the rear seat folding lever.
Step 5:
Many cars have a mechanism to fold the rear seats. If you are not sure where they are, consult your owner's manual to find out.
Once the seat folding lever is pressed, you can fold the rear seat down to access the trunk.
Step 6:
Crawl into the trunk and look for the release lever inside the trunk. It usually glows in the dark so you can find it easily.
Step 7:
Once you find that latch, pull it hard and the trunk will pop open instantly.
Some pre-2002 models do not have a mechanism to unlock the trunk from the inside. If your car is one of these models, call a professional locksmith for help.
