Opening of the National Science and Technology Competition for the 2017-2018 school year
(Baonghean.vn) - On the afternoon of March 10, the National Science and Technology Competition for high school students in the 2017-2018 school year, Northern region, was officially opened in Vinh city.
Attending the opening ceremony were comrades: Phung Xuan Nha - Member of the Party Central Committee, Minister of Education and Training; Nguyen Huu Do - Deputy Minister of Education and Training, Head of the Competition Steering Committee and representatives of leaders of a number of relevant departments, branches and sectors.
On the side of Nghe An province, there were comrades in the Standing Committee of the Provincial Party Committee: Ho Phuc Hop - Head of the Provincial Party Committee's Propaganda Department;Le Minh Thong - Vice Chairman of the Provincial People's Committee;Leaders of the Department of Education and Training, departments, branches and nearly 800 teachers and students of 34 delegations from provinces and universities in the North attended.

Speaking at the opening ceremony to welcome the contest, Vice Chairman of the Provincial People's Committee Le Minh Thong expressed his joy at being trusted by the Ministry of Education and Training to host this contest. He also affirmed: This is both an honor, a responsibility and an opportunity to exchange, learn and share experiences in innovation and development of education and training in general, and the scientific and technical research movement of high school students in particular. From there, to successfully implement the goal of developing learners' qualities and capacities to meet the requirements of innovation and international integration.

At the opening ceremony, Minister of Education and Training Phung Xuan Nha also highly appreciated the efforts of teachers and students in creating tens of thousands of school-level projects; thousands of provincial-level projects; and hundreds of national-level projects.
That achievement also affirmed that Vietnamese students have good potential for scientific research and that potential will develop further if given favorable conditions to study and research.

The Minister of Education and Training also hopes that through this activity, there will be new thinking about teaching and learning methods in schools; expansion of space, time and forms of teaching and learning activities; promotion of innovation in teaching and learning methods, testing and assessment in schools. At the same time, encourage higher education institutions, scientific research organizations and individuals to participate in educational activities of general schools.
The Minister also hopes that universities and scientific and technological organizations should consider the competition results as a good resource to select and use, including human resources (students for enrollment), scientific ideas (to continue investing and researching), technological products (to continue to improve and develop into commercial products)...

The 2017-2018 school year is the 5th year that the Ministry of Education and Training has organized the National Science and Technology Competition for high school students nationwide. This year's competition has attracted a large number of teachers and students from high schools across the country to participate with 488 projects in 22 fields, 882 students participating, an increase of 30 projects compared to the previous school year.
In the Northern region alone, the competition has 34 participating teams with 249 projects of 475 students (High school has 198 projects with 375 students, Middle school has 51 projects with 100 students). Within the framework of the Competition, there will be a scientific seminar "Organizing scientific and technical research activities in high schools"and interesting and useful exchange activities.
The contest will take place over 4 days from March 10 to 13. The closing ceremony, award ceremony and contest launch will be held on the morning of March 13 at the Labor Culture House - Vinh City.
