Opening Ceremony of the National Science and Technology Competition 2017-2018
(Baonghean.vn) - On the afternoon of March 10th, the National Science and Technology Competition for High School Students in the 2017-2018 academic year, Northern region, was officially inaugurated in Vinh City.
Attending the opening ceremony were: Mr. Phung Xuan Nha - Member of the Central Committee of the Communist Party of Vietnam, Minister of Education and Training; Mr. Nguyen Huu Do - Deputy Minister of Education and Training, Head of the Steering Committee of the competition; and representatives from several relevant departments and agencies.
Representing Nghe An province were members of the Provincial Party Standing Committee: Ho Phuc Hop - Head of the Provincial Party Propaganda Department;Le Minh Thong - Vice Chairman of the Provincial People's Committee;Leaders from the Department of Education and Training, other departments and agencies, and nearly 800 teachers and students from 34 delegations from provinces and universities in the North participated.

In his opening remarks welcoming the competition, Vice Chairman of the Provincial People's Committee Le Minh Thong expressed his joy at being chosen by the Ministry of Education and Training to host this competition. He also affirmed that this is both an honor and a responsibility, as well as an opportunity to exchange, learn, and share experiences in innovation and development of education and training in general, and the movement of scientific and technical research among high school students in particular. This aims to successfully achieve the goal of developing students' qualities and abilities to meet the requirements of innovation and international integration.

At the opening ceremony, Minister of Education and Training Phung Xuan Nha also highly appreciated the efforts of teachers and students in creating tens of thousands of school-level projects; thousands of provincial-level projects; and hundreds of national-level projects.
This achievement also confirms that Vietnamese students have good potential for scientific research, and that potential will develop further if given the opportunity to study and conduct research.

The Minister of Education and Training also hopes that this activity will foster new thinking about teaching and learning methods in schools; expand the space, time, and forms of teaching and learning activities; and promote innovation in teaching methods and assessment in schools. At the same time, it encourages higher education institutions, scientific research organizations, and individuals to participate in the educational activities of secondary schools.
The Minister also expressed his hope that universities and scientific and technological organizations would view the competition results as a valuable resource for selection and utilization, including human resources (students for admissions), scientific ideas (for further investment and research), and technological products (for further refinement and development into commercial products)...

The 2017-2018 academic year marked the 5th year that the Ministry of Education and Training organized the National Science and Technology Competition for high school students nationwide. This year's competition attracted a large number of teachers and students from high schools across the country, with 488 projects in 22 fields and 882 participating students, an increase of 30 projects compared to the previous academic year.
In the northern region alone, the competition attracted 34 participating teams with 249 projects from 475 students (198 projects with 375 high school students and 51 projects with 100 middle school students). Within the framework of the competition, a scientific workshop titled "Organizing Scientific and Technical Research Activities in High Schools" will be held.and enriching and enjoyable social activities.
The competition will take place over four days, from March 10th to 13th. The closing ceremony, awards presentation, and competition launch will be held on the morning of March 13th at the Labor Culture House in Vinh City.
