Two young men went to jail after fighting over being "stared at"

On March 21, the People's Court of Quy Hop district publicly tried the criminal case against Phan Tat Tai (born in 1997), residing in Bac Son hamlet, and Tran Duc Anh (born in 1996), residing in Tan Thanh hamlet, both in Tam Hop commune, for the crime of "Intentionally causing injury".
According to the indictment: at about 10:30 p.m. on November 25, 2017, Tai and Anh rode a motorbike to the Karaoke bar "La co" owned by Nguyen Van Thang in Doan Ket hamlet (Nghia Xuan). There, Tai and Anh met Pham Ba Kien (born in 1994), Le Minh Cuong (born in 1996), Thach Canh Son (born in 1997), all residing in Lien Xuan hamlet (Nghia Xuan), and Vo Minh Hieu (born in 1997), residing in Minh Tam hamlet (Minh Hop).

Thinking that Kien was looking at them, Tai and Anh rushed in to punch and kick, using plastic chairs to hit Kien, Cuong, Thach, Son, and Hieu.
After beating him, Anh picked up a wooden stick from the foot of the stairs in the shop and walked around. Seeing that no one was fighting back, Anh threw the wooden stick away and got on his motorbike and left the shop.
When they reached the gate, Tai and Anh met Do Van Tuan (born in 1996), a resident of Lien Xuan hamlet (Nghia Xuan), who had just arrived at the restaurant. Because they suspected that Tuan had been called to beat them, Tai and Anh got out of the car and used their hands, feet, and knees to hit Tuan's face and forehead, injuring him.
At that time, Le Huu Tri (born in 1993), residing in Lien Xuan hamlet, came to stop him, but Tuan was able to run away. Tai ran to the billiards parlor (next to the karaoke parlor), took the billiard cue, broke it, and took a piece to the karaoke parlor. At this time, everyone at the karaoke parlor had run away, so Tai and Anh got in the car and left the parlor.
Then the two continued to the karaoke bar “Senventin” in Tan Hop hamlet, Tam Hop commune, where they met Nguyen Thien Hoang (born in 1991), residing in Tan Hop (Tam Hop). Due to a previous conflict with Hoang, Tai and Anh used their hands to punch Hoang, injuring him. After being stopped by everyone, Hoang ran away towards Sang Le intersection.
While standing there, Hoang met Tuan, a neighbor, and was punched and kicked by Tai, Anh, Duc, and Thanh, injuring Tuan. Hoang continued to run away.
After the incident, Hoang and Tuan filed a report requesting an assessment of the disability rate and a request to initiate a criminal case. Upon learning of this information, Tai and Anh fled the area and were arrested by the Investigation Police Department of Quy Hop District Police on December 9, 2017.
Forensic examination of injuries by Nghe An Forensic Center concluded that Tuan's body injury rate at the time of examination was 13% and Hoang's was 2%. The remaining victims did not request examination.
At the investigation agency, Tai and Anh confessed that they only committed the act of intentionally causing injury to others because they felt "annoyed".
Regarding civil matters, Tai and Anh compensated Tuan 20 million VND.
The People's Court sentenced Phan Tat Tai to 2 years and 6 months in prison and Tran Duc Anh to 2 years in prison for "Intentionally causing injury".
