Heading into their away match against St. Etienne, PSG were determined to secure a victory in order to have any hope of clinching the Ligue 1 title six rounds early.

St. Etienne:Cabella (17')

PSG:Debuchy (90'+2, own goal)

With a star-studded squad and unwavering determination, the Parisian giants pressed their opponents from the opening whistle. However, before they could score, PSG received a cold shower from the home team.

In the 17th minute, Remy Cabella seized the opportunity and scored from close range to open the scoring for St. Etienne. In the 31st minute, the lead should have been doubled, but Cabella failed to beat goalkeeper Alphonse Areola from the penalty spot.

Things became even more difficult for PSG when defender Presnel Kimpembe was sent off in the 41st minute. Playing with ten men, Unai Emery's team had to struggle to defend against dangerous attacks from St. Etienne, and if it weren't for Areola's excellent save, plus the crossbar, the capital team would have conceded another goal.

Cavani shot wide when he had an empty net in front of him.

In the 76th minute, PSG had a golden opportunity to equalize from a lightning-fast counter-attack. Angel Di Maria set up Edinson Cavani for a shot into an empty net, but the Uruguayan striker missed. A missed chance that will surely go down in the history of world football.

Just when it seemed PSG would leave Stade Geoffroy-Guichard empty-handed, in the second minute of added time, former Arsenal defender Mathieu Debuchy clumsily scored an own goal, costing St. Etienne the victory.

Therefore, with this 1-1 draw, PSG will only be crowned Ligue 1 2017/18 champions if second-placed Monaco lose to Nantes in tonight's match. Currently, PSG are leading with 84 points, 17 points ahead of Monaco.
