In announcing the plan to attack Syria with "smart" missiles, US President Donald Trump probably wanted to refer to the latest modified version of the Tomahawk cruise missile, the Tomahawk Block IV, deployed at sea, military expert and editor-in-chief of Defense magazine Igor Korotchenko commented.

“Presumably, we are talking about the Tomahawk cruise missile in its latest modification, the Tomahawk Block-IV, which is sea-based and can strike from US warships located in the eastern Mediterranean,” Korochenko said.

The expert stressed that a real US strike could trigger an international crisis, similar to the Caribbean crisis, when the world was on the brink of a world war.

According to open sources, the Tomahawk Block IV missile, equipped with the US armed forces since 2004, can hit targets at a distance of 1,600 km.
