The General Secretary receives the Speaker of the Sri Lankan Parliament.

On the afternoon of April 24, at the Party Central Headquarters, General Secretary Nguyen Phu Trong received Mr. Karu Jayasuriya, Speaker of the Sri Lankan Parliament, who paid a courtesy visit during his official visit to Vietnam.

The Speaker of the Sri Lankan Parliament announced the results of his talks with the Speaker of the Vietnamese National Assembly and that both sides agreed to strengthen cooperation between the legislative bodies of the two countries.

Speaker of Parliament Karu Jayasuriya stated that Sri Lanka has achieved significant successes in the process of national reconciliation and nation-building; affirmed that Sri Lanka values ​​its good cooperative relationship with Vietnam; and noted that both sides have much potential for cooperation, especially in areas such as tourism, aviation, people-to-people exchanges, youth, Buddhist culture, and the exchange of experiences in economic and social development. He expressed his hope that the high-level leaders of both countries will actively promote the good traditional friendship for the benefit of the people of both countries.

The General Secretary stated that Vietnam has always closely followed and highly appreciated Sri Lanka's significant achievements in socio-economic development. Vietnam values ​​its friendly relations with political parties in Sri Lanka, supports the exchange of high-level delegations between the two countries, and strengthens relations through all channels, including the Party, Government, Parliament, and people-to-people diplomacy. General Secretary Nguyen Phu Trong assessed that bilateral cooperation has made significant progress and that further exchanges are needed to promote cooperation in key areas and other potential fields; he expressed his hope that the two countries will continue to support each other in regional and international multilateral forums.
