General Secretary receives Speaker of Sri Lankan Parliament

On the afternoon of April 24, at the Party Central Committee Headquarters, General Secretary Nguyen Phu Trong received Mr. Karu Jayasuriya, President of the Sri Lankan Parliament, who came to pay a courtesy visit on the occasion of his official visit to Vietnam.

The Speaker of the Sri Lankan Parliament informed about the results of the talks with the Chairman of the Vietnamese National Assembly and the agreement between the two sides to strengthen cooperation between the legislative bodies of the two countries.
National Assembly Speaker Karu Jayasuriya said that Sri Lanka has achieved important victories in the process of national reconciliation and nation building; affirmed that Sri Lanka attaches importance to the good cooperative relationship with Vietnam; believes that the two sides still have a lot of potential for cooperation, especially in areas such as tourism, aviation, people-to-people exchange, youth, Buddhist culture; exchange of experiences in economic and social development, etc. He hopes that the senior leaders of the two countries will actively promote the good traditional friendship, for the benefit of the people of the two countries.

Vietnam always attaches importance to the friendly relations with political parties in Sri Lanka, supports the exchange of high-level delegations between the two countries, and strengthens relations through all channels, including the Party, Government, National Assembly and people-to-people diplomacy. General Secretary Nguyen Phu Trong assessed that bilateral cooperation has made many strides and needs to continue to discuss to promote cooperation in key areas and many other potentials; expressed the hope that the two countries will continue to support each other at regional and international multilateral forums./.
