Director using bamboo charcoal to produce cancer medicine arrested
The police have found the whereabouts of Vinaca Company director Nguyen Xuan Thu after many days on the run due to being investigated for illegally producing cancer treatment products using bamboo charcoal powder.
On May 2, Hai Phong police confirmed that after many days on the run, Nguyen Xuan Thu, Director of Vinaca Company Limited, was arrested on the Hanoi - Hai Phong highway. Thu is being investigated for illegally manufacturing cancer treatment products using bamboo charcoal powder.
Previously, on April 20, Hai Phong Police prosecuted the case at Vinaca and Hong An Phong companies for the crime of Manufacturing and trading in counterfeit food, foodstuffs, and food additives, according to Article 193 of the 2015 Penal Code.
According to the investigation agency, on January 15, 2018, the interdisciplinary inspection team of Kien An district inspected the production facility of Dao Thi Chuc (24 years old, Thu's wife) in Ngoc Son ward and discovered 10 workers creating capsules, labeling, and packaging products under the direct management of Chuc.

According to Chuc’s testimony, the functional foods and cosmetics were produced by manually grinding bamboo charcoal into powder and adding chemicals. The raw materials were provided by Nguyen Van Tuan, Director of Hong An Phong Company Limited, headquartered in Hong Phong Commune (An Duong, Hai Phong). Vinaca’s products are sold in 19 provinces and cities.
