Variety of summer vegetables and fruits in Hoang Mai

(Baonghean.vn) - Changing the crop structure with varieties such as cantaloupe, honeydew melon, bitter melon, tomato... has helped people in Hoang Mai town increase their income. At this time, people are actively going to the fields to harvest early summer vegetables and fruits.

People in village 1, Quynh Vinh commune have boldly converted areas to grow cantaloupe. This is a type of plant that can adapt to highland areas;On average, each sao of melon yields from 800 to 1 ton.

In the summer, cantaloupe is popular because it has a good cooling effect. Currently, cantaloupe costs about 10,000 VND/kg in the field; each crop of cantaloupe, farmers earn about 8 million VND/sao.

In the vegetable growing area of ​​Quynh Lien commune, to avoid the situation of oversupply leading to a good harvest and low prices, people have grown a variety of vegetables such as bitter melon, tomatoes, cabbage... In the summer, plants are more difficult to care for, productivity is also lower, but prices are generally relatively stable.

This spring-summer crop, Hoang Mai town has 250 hectares of vegetables and melons of all kinds, mainly concentrated in the communes of Quynh Lien, Quynh Trang, and Quynh Vinh. Thanks to the focus on developing a variety of seasonal agricultural products, production efficiency has increased significantly, with an estimated production value of over 100 million VND/ha/year.However, the problem of product output is still a difficult problem for farmers as well as local authorities.

According to Mr. Nguyen Dang Tai - Deputy Head of the Economic Department of Hoang Mai town, to improve production efficiency, especially to avoid the case of good harvest but low price, the town has directed specialized departments to coordinate with communes and wards to guide people to actively apply production according to VietGAP process.

At the same time, diversify crops in the structure, identify key products to focus on investment and production. Currently, there are 12 units in the area to purchase and contract with restaurants, hotels; especially large supermarket chains to consume people's products.
