A wide variety of summer vegetables and fruits in Hoang Mai

The people of Hamlet 1, Quynh Vinh Commune, have boldly converted their land to grow yellow melons. This is a crop that can adapt to the high-lying, hilly terrain.On average, each plot of land planted with melons yields between 800 kg and 1 ton.

In the summer, cantaloupe is popular because it has a cooling effect. Currently, cantaloupe is priced at around 10,000 VND/kg at the farm; calculated per crop, farmers earn over 8 million VND per sao (approximately 1000 square meters).
In the vegetable-growing area of Quynh Lien commune, to avoid oversupply leading to price drops during bumper harvests, farmers have diversified their vegetable crops, planting bitter melon, tomatoes, cabbage, etc. While summer crops are more difficult to care for and yields are lower, prices are generally relatively stable.
This spring-summer season, Hoang Mai town has 250 hectares of land planted with various types of vegetables and melons, mainly concentrated in the communes of Quynh Lien, Quynh Trang, and Quynh Vinh. Thanks to the focus on developing diverse agricultural products according to the seasons, production efficiency has increased significantly, with an estimated production value of over 100 million VND/hectare/year.However, finding markets for the products remains a difficult challenge for both farmers and local authorities. |

According to Mr. Nguyen Dang Tai, Deputy Head of the Economic Department of Hoang Mai town, in order to improve production efficiency, especially to avoid the situation of bumper harvests leading to price drops, the town has directed specialized departments to coordinate with communes and wards to guide farmers to actively apply production according to VietGAP standards.
At the same time, crop diversification is being implemented, and key products are being identified to focus investment on production. Currently, 12 units are involved in purchasing and contracting with restaurants, hotels, and especially large supermarket chains to sell the farmers' products.
