Smart trash cans manufactured by Bin.E company can automatically identify and classify trash, according toMirror. The sorting process begins as soon as the waste is placed in. Using a combination of sensors, image recognition technology and artificial intelligence, the Bin.E trash bin will identify the object as mixed, glass, plastic or paper and compress it before transferring it to the appropriate compartment.
The new bin will also collect data and send it to an external database. The database aggregates information from multiple devices to improve image recognition. When one of the bins is full, Bin.E will notify maintenance and waste management companies to pick it up. Since the trash is compacted, the collection process is simple and clean.
The Bin.E is being tested in Poland and could go on sale in the UK in the next few years. The smart bin won't come cheap. The office version will cost around £400, plus an additional £142 for the accompanying app. A home version is expected to cost less.
