Nghe An has 13 craft villages that have stopped operating.
(Baonghean.vn) - Since 2003, the People's Committee of Nghe An province has recognized 153 craft villages in the province. However, up to now, 13 craft villages have stopped operating, including 8 bamboo and rattan craft villages.

According to the report of the Provincial Cooperative Union, in 2017, 7 new craft villages were recognized, bringing the total number of craft villages in the province to 153. Of these, 127 villages are currently developing stably and sustainably (accounting for 86.98%).
However, there are currently 6 inefficient villages, including: 1 weaving village, 1 silk weaving village and 4 bamboo and rattan weaving villages.
There are 13 craft villages that have stopped operating, including 8 bamboo and rattan weaving villages: Xuan Tinh export bamboo and rattan weaving village, Dien Loc commune (Dien Chau); Dong Luyen export bamboo and rattan weaving village, hamlet 5, Quynh Giang commune (Quynh Luu); Van Nam export bamboo and rattan weaving village, Dien Van commune (Dien Chau); Quyet Thang bamboo and rattan weaving village, Dien Truong commune (Dien Chau); Son My bamboo and rattan weaving village, Quynh My (Quynh Luu); Trung Hau export bamboo and rattan weaving village, Quynh Giang commune (Quynh Luu); 4A export bamboo and rattan weaving village, Ngoc Son commune; 4B export bamboo and rattan weaving village, Ngoc Son commune (Quynh Luu).
In addition, there is 1 crocheting village in Quynh Luu district, 1 silk reeling village in Anh Son district, 1 incense making village in Dien Chau, 1 fish sauce processing village in Cua Lo town and 1 bamboo weaving village in Hung Nguyen.

Although bamboo and rattan weaving villages account for a large 30% of the total number of craft villages in the province, with 44 craft villages, the number of workers accounts for only nearly 14%; production value accounts for only over 4% of the total production value of craft villages in the whole province.
According to Mr. Nguyen Van Duc - Head of Policy Consulting Department, Provincial Cooperative Union, rattan and bamboo products of craft villages in Nghe An have their own characteristics from raw materials to techniques and designs, but currently these craft villages are facing many difficulties such as not being proactive in raw material sources; products are mainly handmade without modern production equipment, craft villages lack young workers; there are no support policies to train and foster village managers, artisans, skilled workers; craft village products have not been effectively promoted, have not built a brand, low prices ...".
The total annual production value of Nghe An's craft villages reaches about 160 billion VND; the average income reaches over 30 million VND/person/year. Currently, the total number of workers regularly participating in craft villages is over 20 thousand workers.

In order to effectively promote the rattan and bamboo weaving craft village in particular, along with preserving and developing traditional craft villages and introducing new craft villages in the area, the Provincial Cooperative Union coordinates with sectors and localities to implement synchronous solutions such as: Training and improving skills for workers; planning raw material areas, supporting the search for consumption markets; focusing on quality, design, and labels; investing in infrastructure and technology; focusing on the environment, food hygiene and safety, etc.
At the same time, strengthen the role of local authorities in implementing planning and plans for developing handicrafts and craft villages; build handicraft clusters and zones, and craft villages in urban districts. Include craft village development targets in the local annual socio-economic plan; develop production and business scale, develop new industries and new products; develop craft villages associated with tourism to develop handicraft products...
Strive from now to 2020, the average growth rate of the industry's production value will reach 15%/year, accounting for 15% of the total export turnover of the whole province; Create jobs for 250,000 workers; Strive to develop 5-7 craft villages each year, bringing the total number of craft villages to 180-200 by 2020./.
