US State Department says Geneva process on Syria cannot be replaced
The United States believes that the four-nation summit: Russia, Türkiye, France and Germany held in Türkiye will not replace the Geneva process under the auspices of the United Nations, State Department spokeswoman Heather Nauert said.

"There is no substitute for Geneva, which is one reason why we reaffirm our commitment to the Geneva process. We consider the Geneva process to be the only path to a lasting political solution for Syria," Nauert said.
Asked whether the US would be involved in any way at the summit, she replied: "I'm not aware of any involvement on our part."
According to her, the US supports the efforts of Staffan de Mistura, the UN Secretary-General's special representative for the resolution. On Wednesday, US Secretary of State Mike Pompeo met with Staffan de Mistura.
In July, Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan said that a summit of the leaders of Türkiye, Russia, Germany and France would take place on September 7 in Istanbul.
