French Foreign Minister declares Bashar Assad victorious in Syria
President Bashar Assad is winning the civil conflict in Syria, French Foreign Minister Jean-Iv Le Drian has declared.

"Assad has won the war. We have to admit that," the French Foreign Minister stressed.
At the same time, Mr. Jean-Iv Le Drian noted that the president won without peace. According to the Foreign Minister, to achieve this goal, Damascus needs a political decision with the participation of international mediators.
Mr. Le Drian said Damascus was determined to liberate Idlib province from terrorists. However, even if government forces regained control of the area, it would not solve the problems that caused the conflict.
The head of the French Foreign Ministry added that the country would contribute to a peaceful settlement in Syria within the framework of discussions at the UN General Assembly.
Mr. Le Drian also stressed that the Western coalition is ready to strike in the Arab Republic in case of the use of chemical forces by government troops against civilians in Idlib.
