"Mr. Assad has won the war. We have to acknowledge that," the French Foreign Minister emphasized.

At the same time, Jean-Iv Le Drian noted that the president won without peace. According to the Foreign Minister, to achieve this goal, Damascus needs a political decision with the participation of international mediators.

Mr. Le Drian stated that Damascus is determined to liberate Idlib province from terrorists. However, even if government forces regain control of the area, it will not resolve the underlying issues causing the conflict.

The head of the French Foreign Ministry added that France would contribute to a peaceful resolution in Syria within the framework of discussions at the UN General Assembly.

Mr. Le Drian also emphasized that the Western coalition is ready to attack in the Arab Republic should the government army use chemical weapons against civilians in Idlib.
