(Baonghean.vn) - Without costly investments, without worrying about crop failure or price loss, by clearly intensively cultivating crops, a farming household in Nam Dan district - Nghe An has earned hundreds of millions of dong each year.

These days, Mr. Nguyen Khac Nam and his wife in hamlet 10, Nam Loc commune (Nam Loc) are busy harvesting the tree (to make brooms).

While transporting the bundles down from the mountain, Mr. Nam happily said: "This type of plant can be harvested all year round, but it dries faster on sunny days, it only takes one day of sun to be imported...".

It is known that Mr. Nam's family is currently enclosing 7 hectares of reed trees, the area spreads from the slopes to the top of 2 hills of Truong Mountain. People here, each house only has a few acres of reed trees up to about 1 hectare, and a large area like his family's is very rare.

According to Mr. Nam, his family has such a large area of trees because he was lucky to receive a piece of forest land that already had these trees. With trees, you can harvest without fertilizing, but if you spread a little synthetic fertilizer after the heavy rains, the yield will be higher.

To harvest the trees all year round, Mr. Nam's family applies a pruning method, choosing tall trees to cut first, instead of cutting them all at once. According to Mr. Nam, cutting them all at once in sunny or droughty weather will cause the trees to "lose strength" and grow poorly.

Harvesting is also quite laborious. First, the trees are selected and cut and spread on the mountain. After drying in the sun, the trees are collected, taken down the mountain, and the leaves and flowers are crushed. Crushing the trees is mainly done by hand.

In Nam Loc, families with small acreage often harvest to sell themselves; Mr. Nam's family has to hire more workers to do the work.

Ms. Nguyen Thi Lanh, Mr. Nam's wife, was clearly crushing the tree while saying that growing the tree does not require much investment, no worries about crop failure or price drop, just a little hard work when harvesting, because after cutting, people will come to buy it right on the mountain, no need to take it to the market.

With an area of 7 hectares in harvest, the tree has brought Mr. Nam's family around 250 million VND each year. This is an attractive source of income for many farming households in Nam Loc commune.

In recent years, the market demand for the tree to make brooms has increased sharply, the leaves and flowers of the tree are also purchased to produce essential oils. Currently, the wholesale price of good quality tree at the foot of the mountain is 16,000 - 18,000 VND/kg.
